Best Buds

As the time creeps closer to the hardest time in your mommas life, I just wanted to share a little memory of mine. We were getting ready to go to the down syndrome walk and I had made matching shirts for everyone on the team. We laughed and joked and had a lot of fun. Your mom even made you a funny hat that I have a picture of her wearing. I didn't know the people there, but we became fast friends. A few months later when things were looking rough I spoke to people about you, I shared your story and your strength. People in parent groups who never met you or your amazing Mommy knew who you were. We prayed for you and shared stories. I was in line at the store and I over heard a woman talking about a child whos story they had prayed over in her prayer group. She said his name was Evin. I had to interject and after a few words we found that we were both talking about you. The woman went to a church on the other side of the state. She didn't know me, your momma or anyone else in your circle of support yet she had her life brightened and touched. Thats what you did Evin, in the world around you - you inspired us all with your strength, and your affection. You connected us all, and you do so even still. There isn't a day I don't think about you, as I pass your picture on my wall with the pictures of us at the down syndrome walk around it. Smiling, and laughing in those matching shirts. There is nothing fair about how things turned out...but I know that my life, and the life of so many more were touched by the short time you spent in ours. I will swear that I will forever uphold my promise to your Momma, You will never be forgotten. Not by me, nor my son who knows your name, not by my family, or friends who ask about your picture or the DS shirts I wear, not by the people in groups on line, or the church prayer groups you were apart of...because no matter how short a time you were with us, my precious nephew - You changed our world for the better. I love you.
